Louise Freeman BSN, RN, CDE
As a diabetes educator, I work with health care providers and patients. I meet with people individually and help them develop a plan to learn self-management skills that promote a healthier lifestyle. I serve not only people with diabetes but also persons at risk for diabetes, to reduce the risk of developing diabetes or to prevent and/or delay the progression of complications from diabetes. I am a part of the support group for people with diabetes along with our physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, local pharmacists and any other healthcare professional involved in the care of each patient.
I love being an advocate for each patient and helping empower them to learn that they have options, not rules to live with diabetes. Our diabetes program is accredited through the AADE (American Association of Diabetes Educators) which offers a multitude of teaching materials to help me be successful at my job. I also receive continuing education that keeps me up to date with changes in diabetes care and new treatment options.
